SUNNYSIDE–TAHOE CITY, Placer County — The Tahoe City Public Utility District’s annual report identifies reconstruction of the Tahoe Cedars water system as one of its major 2026 priorities for West Shore communities.
The district says the multiyear effort is designed to replace about 15 miles of undersized or deteriorating water mains and install approximately 100 fire hydrants in places lacking them. Aging lines can affect reliability, while available hydrants and sufficient water flow are important for structural fire protection in wooded communities near Lake Tahoe.
The annual report says TCPUD planned to begin the first construction phase in 2026. That statement is a districtwide project plan, not proof that all fifteen miles or all hydrants have been installed or that every Sunnyside property is within the affected system. Residents should verify their specific water service provider and project boundary.
What residents should know
Property owners can follow district board agendas and capital project updates for construction schedules, utility service notifications and road restoration plans. Any actual short-term shutoff should be confirmed through direct utility communications.
