SUNNYSIDE–TAHOE CITY, Placer County — A separate section of the West Shore Trail south of Sunnyside was completed in October 2025, according to Tahoe City Public Utility District.
The utility district says approximately 2.4 miles of trail between Sunnyside and Blackwood Creek were reconstructed to address cracking, root damage, erosion, drainage failures and shortcomings in visibility and accessibility. The construction replaced many sections of old pavement and incorporated safety enhancements for walking, cycling and other nonmotorized travel. It followed an earlier review of the district’s overall trail network.
This finished southern segment should not be confused with the separate 2026 project north of Sunnyside toward the 64-Acres area. The project descriptions carry different construction years and budgets. Even on a completed route, winter snow, ice or maintenance can restrict access.
What residents should know
Residents can use the district’s online trail map and notices to plan trips. When snowplows or other maintenance crews are working, follow posted signs and check whether an alternate walking or cycling route is safer.
