SUNNYSIDE–TAHOE CITY, Placer County — Placer County’s Local Agency Formation Commission is reviewing a proposal to create a new Town of North Tahoe, a potentially significant change in local government for communities around Tahoe City.
LAFCo says it received an incorporation application from Eastern Placer Future. Proposed boundaries encompass approximately 59,569 acres and include Tahoe City, Kings Beach and Olympic Valley. The process began with a petition in December 2025, followed by a certificate of sufficiency in January 2026 and an application in February. A comprehensive fiscal analysis was being prepared during 2026 to examine the viability of a new town.
The proposal remains active and under review, not an incorporated municipality. Residents should not assume changes to taxation, voting, road maintenance or public safety have already taken effect. Whether a particular Sunnyside parcel falls within the proposed boundary must be checked against LAFCo’s official maps.
What residents should know
People interested in the plan can review LAFCo’s public filings, fiscal analysis and upcoming hearings, and submit comments through the commission’s process.
